Coaches Information

Thank you for volunteering with Woodbridge Little League. Our coaches create a safe, positive, and development-focused experience for every player. Below is everything you need to get started and have a great season.

Getting Started

  • Complete your Coach Interest Form and background check (links above).
  • Finish Abuse Prevention / Safety training (annually).
  • Confirm your division assignment and roster from the Player Agent.
  • Set up your team in GameChanger and invite families.

Practices & Games

Division Typical Weekly Rhythm
Tee Ball 1 practice + 1 game (weekends)
Coach Pitch 1 practice + 1 game (weekends)
Minors (Player Pitch) Preseason: 2 practices/week. In-season: ~1 practice + 1–2 games.
Majors Preseason: 2 practices/week. In-season: ~1 practice + 2 games.
Juniors / Seniors Varies; county-wide and interleague scheduling.

Practice schedules are set by coaches and field availability and may vary week to week. Weather, permits, and interleague coordination can affect schedules. All updates should be posted in GameChanger.

Interleague Games

Divisions above Coach Pitch may participate in Interleague play with nearby leagues. Expect occasional travel to local fields, weeknight or weekend games, and schedule adjustments. Interleague rules and ground rules will be shared by your division coordinator.

Coach Expectations

  • Safety first: player check-ins, proper warm-ups, hydration plan, weather awareness.
  • Positive culture: teach fundamentals, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.
  • Communication: post practices/games and messages through GameChanger.
  • Role modeling: follow WBLL and Little League codes of conduct at all times.

Sample 60-Minute Practice

  • 5 min — Team huddle & focus of the day
  • 10 min — Dynamic warm-up & throwing
  • 30 min — Stations (hitting, defense, baserunning)
  • 10 min — Team drill / controlled scrimmage
  • 5 min — Wrap-up & parent notes

Game Day Checklist

  • Lineup card & player safety gear (helmets, catcher’s gear)
  • Game balls, first-aid kit, ice packs, water
  • Know the ground rules; confirm umpires
  • Sportsmanship handshake line; field cleanup after

Safety & Compliance

  • Concussion awareness — remove and refer if in doubt.
  • Heat & weather — hydration, shade, and lightning procedures.
  • Pitch counts (player pitch divisions) — follow Little League limits and rest rules.
  • Report any injuries to the WBLL board promptly.

Equipment

  • Pickup & returns coordinated by the Equipment Manager.
  • Team bag typically includes: balls, tees, catcher's gear, first-aid kit.
  • Players bring personal gloves; helmets/bats per division guidance.

Fields, Permits & Weather

Field assignments are handled by the Scheduler. Weather/closures may change availability on short notice.

  • Weekday updates: typically by 3:00 PM
  • **Always** confirm in GameChanger before leaving for practice or games.

Communication

  • Use GameChanger for schedules, messages, and alerts.
  • Share weekly expectations with families (focus skill, uniform color, arrival time).
  • Celebrate sportsmanship and effort in team messages.
